Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title: Water Distribution Systems - Water Treatment Plants
    Abstract:
The NCREDC in conjunction with Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates developed the digital location and information of water treatment plants as mapped by individual system owners as required by contract. The data collected will facilitate planning, siting and impact analysis in the 70 individual counties of North Carolina. This file enables the user to make various county-level determinations when used in conjunction with other data layers. This data contains information on water treatment plants as defined by NCREDC, WTP ID, original construction year, latest renovation, permitted plant capacity, maximum daily flow, average daily flow, type of treatment, and facility area in acres. Other coverages exist with water lines and other appurtenances.

    1. How are geographic features stored in the data set?

This is a Vector data set. It contains the following vector data types (SDTS terminology):

      • Entity point (818)

    2. What coordinate system is used to represent geographic features?

Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.000000. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.000000. Latitude and longitude values are specified in Decimal degrees.

The horizontal datum used is D_WGS_1984.
      The ellipsoid used is WGS_1984.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378137.000000.
