DESCRIPTION
As stream sedimentation is the most significant factor in the poorer rating of most of these sites, the drought of the past two years may also have affected the rating changes to some extent. The most notable change has been at the most downstream site on Newfound Creek. Once the site with the worst overall water quality in the VWIN program, this site is now rated fair. The most upstream site on Newfound Creek also rates fair, but the site at Leicester Hwy still rates poor. Sediment is still a serious problem at this site and conductivity and nutrient levels are also elevated. Efforts to control bank erosion and livestock access to streams on Newfound Creek are being carried out by the Buncombe County Soil and Water Conservation District.
